15 Nov Sleeping Beauty | Mia’s Newborn Photoshoot | Brisbane

Super sweet little Mia came to visit me a couple of weeks ago. Mum requested soft colours and organic tones, and we had a lovely morning creating this beautiful gallery.

The most memorable thing for me about Mia’s newborn session was how amazingly sleepy she was! I always reassure my clients that we allow plenty of time for extra feeding and settling, and that’s all very normal. But Mia decided she didn’t need any of that, and snoozed her way through the morning like a champion! Mia’s mum & dad also did a wonderful job of preparing her for the shoot by keeping her awake as much as possible before they came, giving her a big feed before the car ride, and dressing her comfortably in a little suit that didn’t need to go over her head when she arrived.

I made this little outfit a while ago, and it fit just perfectly. Looking back through these now I just want to pick her back up and give her a snuggle!

This is just about my favourite “filler” for baby girls – this stunning mix of pinks, green and neutrals. A beautiful hand-dyed creation from indie fibre artist Jacinta from Spiral Dyed.

Mia also brought this amazing hand-knitted blanket that one of her grandmas made for her!

And to suit the natural and organic feel of the session, we did the family shots with a little more of a relaxed ambience, with all the focus on gorgeous Mia and the connection of this beautiful new family. There’s something extra special (crazy? hard? overwhelming?) about those early weeks with a first baby – the transition from a couple to a family is profound. And it is a privilege to be a small part of that journey.

Just as I was dressing Mia ready for the trip home, she was laid out looking soooooo relaxed that I had to sneak one more. Thankfully this little setup was at the ready, and within 30 seconds I had these last two shots. That last black and white is one of mum & dad’s favourites (and mine too!) – the stretch! the cheeks! the tiny tongue! Altogether just too much cuteness.
